Supplies in Europe

Hi all!

I live in the Netherlands, where (modern) calligraphy doesn't seem to be a big thing (yet). My local art supply store sells quite a lot inks, some holders and a few nibs, mostly by gillot. I'd like to get my hands on a couple of hunts, easterbrooks, brause and what not. Ordering from the US will result in crazy high shipping costs, but in my own country there's a whole lot of nothing... 🙁
Are there more people here living in Europe? Where do you get your supplies? Any other tips? Anyone?

Thanks.

Jo

Hello Jo,

I live in Germany where the situation is similar I guess, so here is what I found so far!

There is this site which offers among other stuff a huge range of nibs:

He ships very fast and includes always a little goodie!

The Schenks in Switzerland have a gorgeous home-brewn iron gall ink and walnut ink (also among many other nice supplies):

A lot of calligraphy equipment also here:

I ordered there some automatic pens and Ziller ink – they shipped very fast and it was not expensive, considering that it was from UK.

What I couldn't find in Europe is a decent supplier for oblique pen holders, also instructional material for Spencerian I could only find in the US. So I did order some stuff from Johnnnealbooks (shipping costs were crazy ... it depends on weight and I wanted some books also). For oblique pen holders I heartily recommend Mr. Brian Smith's Unique Obliques – they are just gorgeous. The shipping costs are worth the trouble!

Hope you find in one place or the other what you are looking for!

Hi!

I live in Spain, and I'm in a similar situation, no chance of buying things in physical shops 🙁

Apart from the ones Estefa mentioned, my personal favourite is Scribblers, also from the UK:

Once I ordered some ruling pens from here (but I must say the shipping costs were pretty high for my standard):

Hope it helps!

Hi, I just discovered http://www.kallipos.de yesterday and bought a few hundred dollars worth of nibs…! He has a great stock of vintage ones and I was so tempted to get 1 of each…! (or maybe I should have, sigh) But I have to admit, his prices ain’t cheap, so if you can find cheaper alternatives, please do (after factoring the shipping).
